European Alternatives is a citizen-powered transnational organisation imagining, demanding, and enacting democracy, equality, and culture beyond the nation state from a grassroots perspective. Operating from our local hubs in Berlin, Paris and Palermo, we are dedicated to the democratic and solidary transformation of our political institutions, our economic system, and our civil societies that many people in Europe and around the world are striving for.
The European Alternatives' Berlin Hub (European Alternatives Berlin e.V.) focuses on transformative community organising training, transnational movement building, and popular education, and since June 2024 is a migrant-led organisation with a core team of 7 people.
Since 2018, our core project is the School of Transnational Organising (SOTO), a multimodal grassroots school rooted in the importance of relation-oriented grassroots organising, consciousness raising, community outreach and leadership building that focuses on organising people and their communities – complementing conventional activist practices that emphasise attention-oriented social media campaigning, awareness raising, rights-based advocacy and mobilisation for collective action. Two of the core SOTO sub-projects are the Academy of Migrant Organising, and the Mobile University for Migrant Workers.
