The Franco-German Youth Office (FGYO / OFAJ-DFJW) and the Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ Foundation) are looking for young people between the ages of 18 and 24 for the project ‘War(s) in Europe – Shared experience, collective memory?’ — an international youth exchange that will take place in English.


What is it about? You will take part in an unforgettable journey together with young people from Germany, France and Bosnia and Herzegovina: 10 days, 5 cities, 3 countries from Western to Eastern Europe. We will discover historic sites which represent the military conflicts that marked Europe in the 20th century, and study the stories behind them. It will be a meaningful and instructive experience leading from Paris through Munich to Sarajevo!


What should you expect? We are interested in how countries deal with war and similar events. The experiences from the First and Second World Wars and the Balkan Wars will play an important role. Of course, we will also talk about the war in Ukraine. We want to take this journey with you. While visiting different meaningful sites we want to reflect on the memories of the wars which have taken place in Europe so that we can understand how they shape the history and identity of the people in our countries.


This youth exchange will allow you to develop new intercultural skills, as well as to experience the many different ways to deal with history. Together, we want to tackle the topic of our commemorative cultures in our home countries, and engage ourselves in favour of a better future.

26 September 2023: First meeting (Online, 90 minutes)


From 9 to 18 October 2023: 10 day youth exchange (Paris, Munich, Vienna, Zagreb, Sarajevo)



APPLICATION


  • Target audience:
    • Young people between the ages of 18 and 24


    • Residence in Bosnia-und-Herzegovina, regardless of nationality



  • Conditions:
    • Interest in cross-border networking and European culture of remembrance


    • English language skills (B2 level)


    • Willingness to attend the first meeting (90 minutes, online) on 26 September 2023, as well as the entire trip.



The FGYO will cover the costs of the stay (accommodation in a double room, full board), the programme costs, as well as the travel costs (journey to Paris and departure from Sarajevo up to the maximum amount of 400 Euro. Travel from Paris to Sarajevo will be by train and bus and will be organised by the FGYO. Arrival will be in Paris on 9 October until 18:00, departure from Sarajevo on 19 October after breakfast. Participants’ attendance is required for the entire duration of the youth exchange.
